ALLOTMENT INQUIRY

Today, Poppy, Global Gardens project coordinator gave evidence at the Senedd to the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee as part of the Welsh Assembly Allotment Inquiry alongside Dr. Hannah Pitt, researcher at the Sustainable Places Research Institute, Cardiff University.

This inquiry is looking reviewing the Welsh Government’s approach to allotments and community growing is appropriate to meet the challenges of the future.

You can view the evidence submitted by Global Gardens here.

We highlighted the potential value of community allotments and raised some of the challenges we face as an allotment community growing project - including allotment fees, short term tenancy and certain restrictions around events (for example, we would really like to be able to use our cob oven at the allotment!)

Hopefully this inquiry will encourage further local council support for community allotment projects in Wales.
