MAKING BIRD FEEDERS@OUTDOOR PLAY
This month, we made willow bird feeders at the outdoor play session with willow weaver Nancy. We then packed them full of small seeds (a wild bird seed mix) with vegetable lard as a binder.
Now is the perfect time to start putting out seeds for birds in the garden. During colder periods, a water and food supply could make the difference between life and death for garden birds.
The RSPB recommend setting up a bird feeder and water station and in cold spells to put out food and water on a regular basis - daily if possible. Small seeds are great for house sparrows, dunnocks and finches. Tits and greenfinches favour sunflower seeds.
