Stay Home, Eat Veg!

As a community growing project, the core aim of Global Gardens Project is to bring people together to learn about gardening, cooking and craft.

As a result of Covid-19, we have obviously had to stop all in person public project activities at the garden for the time being. Some of our learning opportunities have shifted online, including the #GrowYourOwn course with Kai and the Permaculture Design Course with Shift Bristol.

This week, we are also excited to launch our new project Stay Home, Eat Veg!

Stay Home, Eat Veg!

Through recipe sharing, crop sharing and plant sharing in a socially distant way, Stay Home, Eat Veg! will aim to support learning at home and connections between people living in Cardiff.

Once a fortnight, starting this week, we will be featuring one crop and one herb growing at the Global Gardens site.

We will be inviting people to share and even create recipes that incorporate the featured crop and herb.

Doorstep Delivery

For those living in Splott, Adamsdown, Roath, Cathays, Heath and Cathays, there will also be opportunity to apply for a doorstep delivery of a Stay Home, Eat Veg! pack in exchange for a recipe contribution.

Each pack will include a portion of the featured crop and herb with featured recipes and a seedling/seeds of the featured crop/herb and growing instructions. There will also be a chance to get an extra pack for a nominated neighbour or friend.

Recipe Sharing

We will be inviting participants to share their experience of cooking with the produce and growing the crops via social media. Each fortnight, we will post featured recipes on the Global Gardens website blog, including recipe contributions from local food bloggers and chefs.

We hope Stay Home, Eat Veg! will support new and existing virtual and door-step connections between people living in Cardiff, as well as with seasonal cooking and edible gardening.

There are lots of other cool things happening in Cardiff - including a home grown salad project with Cardiff Salad Garden, Stay at home, Grow your own! with Green City, #SowSomeSunshine and #GrowWell with Grow Cardiff and #GrowingHope with #EdibleCardiff. You can find out more about these projects here.
