We meet at Global Gardens throughout the year to explore creativity through drawing on the first Saturdays of most months, 1-4pm..

The garden environment, including use of the on-site classroom, provides inspiration and space to develop our abilities with observation, awareness, expression, communication and technique.

The sessions are relatively informal, with all levels of ability and experience welcome. Some guidance and tuition can be given, and we will sometimes focus on particular practises, such as expressive mark making, abstraction and realism in art, botanical illustration and more..

Some materials are provided, and the sessions are currently free of charge.

Looking back at 2025 by Nick Minardi, Drawing Club Coordinator reflects:

“2025 was the first year of ‘drawing through the seasons’ at Global Gardens. We met throughout the year, usually on the first Saturday of every month. The intention was (and is) to develop and enjoy drawing skills, and encourage more awareness and observation of seasonal change in the garden. It was interesting and often enjoyable to share the creative experience together… So, on we go into 2026!”

The drawing club also supports the seed saving art project 0 where we invite local artists to depict in 2-D a crop we are saving seed from. Here are some examples from our 2025 seed art range.

Cranberry Climbing Bean by Maki Kita, Brecon Black by Ella McKenzie, Chamomile by Shaheedah Khan

Some of the works from our Seed Art range alongside works created by the Making and Mending Club were also exhibited at Waterloo Tea at the Whitchurch Road, Penylan and Penarth branches.
