WRITER-IN-RESIDENT @GLOBAL GARDENS
We are excited to introduce our first writer in resident, Lucy Smith!
Lucy (far left in the photo above) has been involved in Global Gardens for almost two years now, first of all as a volunteer. Lucy is a writer and has facilitated a number of creative writing workshops in the garden this year. During the Tyfu i Ddysgu/Growing to Learn Cardiff University project, Lucy was writer-in-resident at Riverside Community Garden for March-April and we are excited to welcome her back to Global Gardens as our very first Global Gardens writer-in-resident.
Learn more about Lucy...
I originally grew up in Lancaster, and have lived in Cardiff and been involved with Global Gardens since 2017. I’m a writer of short stories and flash fiction and love writing that says a lot with very few words.
In my role as writer in residence at Global Gardens, I'll be producing some writing every month, aiming to unravel something about what the project is doing, and how learning more about nature and growing can affect us, and maybe reflect back at us some things which are revealing about our lives. Through the creative writing workshops I run I also hope to give others the opportunity to think about how the garden might be having an influence on them, even if it's just for that day.
I am the creator of Talking Ink Podcast, a Radio Cardiff podcast in association with Seren Books, showcasing local flash fiction writers and poets. I was awarded a prize for my short fiction from Lancaster University and have been published on Legend Press’s website. Last year I completed my MA in Creative Writing with Cardiff University. I am currently co-writing an audio book for a project promoting the Severn Estuary and have lead writing workshops for both children and adults in the past.
My writing and the writing from those who take part in the workshops will be published on the Global Gardens website, and we hope to have a spoken word event at the garden come summer!
