 Global Gardens Project is a community growing project based in Cardiff. 

 

Our vision is to create a growing space that supports community-based sharing of food and cultures.  

 

We have an allotment site where we are cultivating an organic kitchen garden, celebrating crops from around the world.

 

The crops grown are used in our quarterly community suppers and shared within the local community.

 

We also have a mobile pizza oven which is available for community events.

This Saturday, Michele Fitzsimmons of Edible Landscaping led an introduction to permaculture. In the morning, we learnt about forest gardening, guilds and the basics of incorporating agroforestry techniques in the garden.

On Monday, at the July Global Gardens supper, we celebrated the important role of pollinators as part of the Global Gardens Grow Wild Seeds and Spores Project.

With the sun shining brightly, we decided to relocate from the cafe to the garden and have an impromptu garden party - which seemed appropriate since we were celebrating the intimate connections between pollinators and plants.

We were delighted to welcome Annwen from the Rhizome Community Herbal Clinic to the Global Gardens site for the Healing Herbs in the Garden workshop. This workshop provided an introduction to the healing properties of herbs and 'weeds' that grow in the garden

We are excited to welcome Kai to the Global Gardens team. Kai has thirty years experience in biodynamic gardening and farming and connecting a wide range of people with land work. Kai is going to be leading the Wednesday sessions 10am-3pm.

The Global Gardens Project is a community project about bringing people together through gardening, sharing food and learning new skills. We are developing an arts-based programme for the forthcoming year, thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

Global Gardens are thrilled to be selected as one of the People's Projects of Wales, 2018.

This funding will enable us to develop the infrastructure at the garden to make it more welcoming and inclusive, including a family garden and community kitchen.

This April, we have been learning about the incredible kingdom of fungi.

On Saturday 23rd April, Rich Wright led a workshop at the Global Gardens site on the benefits of cultivating fungi in the garden. This month at the Global Gardens Supper, we cooked up some tasty vegan welsh cakes in celebration of three things...1. it's the month St.David's Day (1 March), patron Saint of Wales; 2. it's the month of International Women's Day; 3. it's also the month of Welsh Women's Aid 40th birthday.
