Global Gardens Project is a community growing project based in Cardiff.

Our vision is to create a growing space that supports community-based sharing of food and cultures.

We have an allotment site where we are cultivating an organic kitchen garden, celebrating crops from around the world.

The crops grown are used in our quarterly community suppers and shared within the local community.

We also have a mobile pizza oven which is available for community events.

Hello, I’m Vaida, Global Garden’s supper coordinator.

I love cooking with locally grown seasonal produce, which makes the whole process so much more rewarding and inspiring.  I look for ideas in different world cuisines and traditional cooking that I like to creatively transform into something healthy and delicious.

My approach to food is influenced by the Lithuanian culture that I grew up with, my family and my life in the UK. Whe...

I’ve been asked to share a recipe that would be plant based, and nourishing. A vegetable broth I’ve been making for years now, seemed to be just the right thing.

I first came across this recipe 2-3 years ago in Sarah Bearden's 'Nutrition in essence' book. I tried it out, loved the taste and the health benefits it promised and been making it ever since. Or at least some version of it. I sometimes have to do with produce I can find in my fridge...

Meet Lucy and Glesni, our lovely lead student volunteers from Cardiff University.

Together, they help coordinate the students who volunteer with us at the garden and kitchen.

I'm studying for an MA in Creative Writing at Cardiff Uni and joined the Global Gardens Project because I love gardening and its ability to bring people together. It's wonderful to relax and join in at the garden every Saturday and I've loved meeting new peopl...

On the last Monday of November 2017 we gathered for a different kind of supper at the Embassy Cafe. This was an unusual supper … one that involved t-shirts, fencing and scissors. What kind of dish were we going to be cooking up?

Becca from Green City was the ‘head chef’ of the night and she has some serious stitching skills. She was involved in the Made in Roath stitching project which includes cross-stitched pieces dotted around Roath. Poppy...

This weekend, we made a healing balm, using a Lavender oil made from Lavender from the Global Gardens herb patch. This was the first of our Healing Workshops in the Greenhouse and it was great to have a warm and sheltered space to make this remedy.

For the balm, the cut Lavender was dried, infused in the almond oil for 4 weeks. We then strained the oil and added it to melted cocoa butter and beeswax. We added some Lavender essential oil to he...

It was a beautiful day to celebrate the completion of the Greenhouse Build - 'Phase One'.

The Welsh School of Architecture first year students and tutors have helped design and build our wonderful Global Gardens Greenhouse. Today, we marked the completion of the Phase One with a setting of intentions. We were guided through a Qi Gong meditation led by the wonderful Kalpana Each of the students sowed a seed and made a drawing of the structure....

Over five weeks, the first year students have been helping create our Global Gardens Greenhouse.

During week one, the students did an amazing job of clearing our concrete apron, which marks the foundation of the greenhouse.

By the middle of week two, the base was clear and scrubbed!

During weeks two to three, the students worked in groups to build six modules which form the timber structure of the Greenhouse.

During week four, the modules wer...

This month, the lovely Eira from Inner City Pickle led a workshop on preserve-making at the Embassy Cafe. We are keen to learn more about preserving fruits and vegetables as it extends the shelf-life and, in the case of fermentation, enhances the health-giving properties of certain veg.

To start, we made an apple chutney using apples harvested from the Global Gardens apple tree. Eira let us try her speedy apple corer and slicer. This made the...

On Tuesday evening we were joined by 22 spritely folks from Good Gym Cardiff and Colette and Gary from BBC Wales at the garden. With lots of helping hands, we managed to finish the final herb bed, planting out our Comfrey plants into their new homes.

With support from the Greggs Local Environment Fund, we were able to purchase wood-chip which we used to lay the paths in the herb patch. So we now have a herb patch of Lavender, Rosemary, Sage,...

For the August Global Gardens Supper, we continued with colourful summery vibes.

Vaida shared her Lithuanian summer beetroot soup with us at the Global Gardens August Supper. The soup was a bright pink colour, and it was a delight to eat.

Shuna also prepared some delicious vegan salads, using kale from the Global Gardens patch and tomatoes from One Fox Lane and Blaencamel.

For dessert, we enjoyed a plum cake made from plums harvested by Orcha...
